LifeRocksPatchFinal.pngYour donation to the Life Rocks Foundation will benefit a myriad of charitable causes that affect everyone – from childhood cancer to diabetes to military support and pet charities.

Over the last several years, Bret Michaels and the Life Rocks Foundation has sent many diabetic kids to camps to help them learn how to manage their diabetes as well as show them that there are other kids just like them.

A life-long diabetic, Michaels as served as a role model and inspiration for fans young and old who also suffer from diabetes. He has shown time and time again that he will not let diabetes control him – he is in control of his life. He leads, and has always led, an active life from sports to travel and his nearly 30 year career in music.

Michaels comes from a family of military men and women, always pausing during each and every show to honor the troops past, present and future. Supporting causes such as Wounded Warriors and the USO for events over the years is just one of the ways he continues to honor the military and their families.

In the past few years, childhood cancer has touched Michaels through the stories of Ava and other children he has met in his travels. Cancer is hard enough for adults, but for parents of children with cancer, the pain is unbearable. Donating time and money to help children and their families, Michaels continues to raise awareness for all cancer patients and their families.

An animal lover, Michaels has recently launched a line of pet products with PetSmart – the Bret Michaels Pets Rock Collection. On his own and in conjunction with PetSmart Charities, he is raising awareness and support for rescues, pet adoptions and other animal charities.

Bret Michaels Rocks “Sweet Home Alabama’” on MDA Show of Strength Telethon

Rocker donates $10,000 and promises 9-year-old Ambassador a Harley ride

#MDAtelethon

CHICAGO, Aug. 30, 2014 — Viewers tuning into the 49th MDA Show of Strength Telethon this Labor Day weekend are in for “Nothin’ But a Good Time” when legendary rock star and former Poison front man Bret Michaels covers American classic “Sweet Home Alabama” on the nationally televised show airing Sunday, Aug. 31, 9/8c on ABC television stations across the country.

In addition to his rockin’ performance, Michaels took his support backstage during the show taping at the Hollywood Palladium to meet with families served by the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which included an exclusive interview with blue carpet correspondent, and MDA’s National Goodwill Ambassador, 9-year old Reagan Imhoff of New Berlin, Wis

The charismatic third-grader left a big impression on Michaels, who was moved to pledge an unplanned $10,000 donation to Reagan on the blue carpet to help support MDA’s  mission to save and improve lives of children and adults affected by muscle disease.

Michaels, and avid motorcycle enthusiast, also let Reagan charm her way into nabbing a chance-of-a-lifetime motorcycle ride on one of his Harley-Davidson bikes at a later date. Click here to see the adorable blue carpet interview with Reagan and Bret.

“I was really excited when I got asked to participate in the telethon this year because I truly believe in the lifesaving work that MDA does to help kids affected by muscle disease,” Michaels said. “I knew it was going to be a really special experience, but nothing prepared me for the moment I met Reagan. She reminded me of my youngest daughter and my heart melted as soon as she asked me to take her on a motorcycle ride. I would do anything to help these kids who fight courageously every day. I promised her a motorcycle ride and I can’t wait to make good on that promise.”

As part of her role as MDA’s National Goodwill Ambassador, Reagan travels throughout the country (along with parents, Jenny and Joe) speaking to groups about MDA’s mission to save and improve the lives of families like hers affected by muscle disease.  Reagan has spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a genetic disease affecting the part of the nervous system that controls voluntary muscle movement.

Michaels’ relationship with MDA began last spring when performed at the 27th annual Ride for Life in Bethlehem, Pa. and met with 14-year-old MDA Ambassador Bryson Foster. Bryson got the chance to interview the rock icon during a special meet-n-greet, which inspired Michaels to invite Bryson onstage for a special finale performance of classic hit “Nothin’ but a Good Time” later that evening.

Michaels also made good the #ALSIceBucketChallenge when Bryson, among many others, called out the rocker to take the challenge, which has raised millions for ALS research. Michaels took his challenge in a big way, from his record-breaking concert in Connecticut earlier this month. MDA has been fighting ALS for more than 60 years. The organization invest millions in research and services tied to ALS each year. See Bret’s Ice Bucket Challenge here: http://youtu.be/FKy_dLkZwfU.

MDA’s first Labor Day weekend telethon was broadcast in 1966 on a single New York station and has become the most successful fundraising event in the history of television. The show, with its iconic host Jerry Lewis and with help from a legion of top celebrities and entertainers, has raised millions each year to provide life-enhancing support and services for the families MDA serves. The real stars on the broadcast have always been the MDA families who have graciously agreed to open their homes and hearts to America and tell their stories of strength. This year marks the 49th annual MDA telethon.

The 2014 MDA telethon will feature a star-studded celebrity lineup with performances from Grammy® winnersRascal Flatts and LeAnn Rimes, plus Aloe Blacc, American Authors, Bret Michaels, Fall Out Boy, Jason Derulo, Matt Nathanson, R5 and Sara Evans.

On a rare day off during his sold out 2014 tour, Michaels, NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, winner during its highest rated season, brought his busses, band and crew to Pilger Nebraska to physically assist in the clean-up efforts in the wake of the destruction caused by the twin EF4 tornadoes that destroyed Pilger and several surrounding towns on June 16th 2014. Michaels along with his band and crew wasted no time jumping in with the community to move and clean up debris, Bret a life-long diabetic also took time to meet and talk with many of the residents and speak to the media with the intention of spreading awareness and encourage others to pitch in.

Prompted by the affects that the tragedy had on his sisters who live in the area, one which served at Offutt Air Force Base, Bret an avid philanthropist whose LIFE ROCKS foundation is instrumental in donating to Diabetes, Cancer, Veterans and Pets and many other charitable causes, was so affected by what he’d seen during his stop in Pilger on June 23rd, that he decided instantly to put on a mega concert in the area in hopes of raising thousands of dollars to aid in the relief of the devastation caused by June 16th 2014’s twin tornados.

Music Legend Bret Michaels now lives up to his promise and invites everyone to participate in rebuilding what has been lost, by attending this spectacular event on Sunday Aug 24th at the Devent Center in Norfolk Nebraska. Michaels will be bringing a huge stage show and performing all the Poison hits as well as his solo hits and music from his number one rated TV shows, including his new single A Beautiful Soul, which has over 4 million unique you tube views and debuted at number 2 in the new music charts earlier this year. Tickets are on sale now and are available through ETix (https://www.etix.com/ticket/servlet/s/38106727). Come help make a difference.
