Over the last several years, Bret Michaels and the Life Rocks Foundation has sent many diabetic kids to camps to help them learn how to manage their diabetes as well as show them that there are other kids just like them.

A life-long diabetic, Michaels as served as a role model and inspiration for fans young and old who also suffer from diabetes. He has shown time and time again that he will not let diabetes control him – he is in control of his life. He leads, and has always led, an active life from sports to travel and his nearly 30 year career in music.

Michaels comes from a family of military men and women, always pausing during each and every show to honor the troops past, present and future. Supporting causes such as Wounded Warriors and the USO for events over the years is just one of the ways he continues to honor the military and their families.

Childhood cancer has touched Michaels through the stories of Ava and other children he has met in his travels. Cancer is hard enough for adults, but for parents of children with cancer, the pain is unbearable. Donating time and money to help children and their families, Michaels continues to raise awareness for all cancer patients and their families.

An animal lover, Michaels is raising awareness and support for rescues, pet adoptions and other animal charities.

Addy’s Disneyland Journey

Addy’s Disneyland Journey

In summer 2018 Bret Michaels met an amazing little girl from Idaho named Addy Berria along with her Mother, Ashley and family backstage during a meet & greet. During their conversation Bret was inspired by Addy’s spirit and personality, so much that he offered to cover the associated costs sending Addy and her family to Disneyland.

Through his Life Rocks Foundation, Bret’s commitment by giving back to communities in which he performs runs deep. Meeting genuine people like Addy and her family are truly at the core of what Life Rocks is all about.

After weeks of planning between Michaels’ team and Ashley, including a “Don’t Do What Bretty Rocks Does” charity video seen here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BoPoQCKBbhw/, arranging flights for the 5 family members, hotel, car service etc. the family was set to head west from Idaho to California in search of Mickey Mouse and an awesome time.

Below are photos sent from Ashley from their trip. From airport to airplane, from hotel to Disneyland and back on behalf of Bret and all at MEGI/Life Rocks Foundation, we are glad you had a great time Addy!

Bret Michaels’ Life Rocks Foundation Collaborates With Team Carly Rocks Sending 15 Children To Diabetes Summer Camp

On special occasions Bret Michaels’ Life Foundation collaborates with other charitable organizations to benefit individuals, families and causes. While backstage at a recent tour stop Mitch and Carly, a father and daughter diabetic pair met fellow diabetic Bret Michaels. Bret and Mitch discussed bringing their foundations together for this instance which resulted in funding to send 15 children to diabetes summer camp at Camp Ho Mita Koda located in Ohio.

As a lifelong Type 1 juvenile diabetic since the age of 6, Bret formed his Life Rocks Foundation out of necessity and a desire to give back to children and communities. In addition, Bret’s Life Rocks Foundation also works with organizations benefiting veterans, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and many others with instant impact and real results rather than taking a knee. Bret is about really doing something about it.

Each year Bret sends children to diabetes summer camp which focuses on learning how to manage diabetes while having fun and developing new friendships. Bret remains a focal point in helping to raise diabetes awareness. “Diabetes is the reason I fought so hard to win Celebrity Apprentice” said Michaels referencing his victory on the highest rated season of the show’s existence. “Collaborating Life Rocks with Team Carly Rocks to send 15 children to camp is an awesome day.”

In addition, Michaels works closely with the American Diabetes Association and JDRF having served as keynote speaker at numerous gala events which helped to raise millions of dollars for the cause.

Jen Gage, GiGi’s Playhouse Phoenix Founder Calls Bret Michaels A Class Act & Generous

“Bret is truly a class act! Generous, Accepting and KIND. Letting the kids join him onstage for the entire set and taking the time to meet and talk with each one of them was above and beyond anyone’s expectations. Bret is truly compassionate about helping others. I so appreciate how involved he was with our participants and families.  They were grinning from ear to ear and still are. Truly magical and the whole room felt it! He embodies GiGi’s mission to change outdated perceptions of Down syndrome, break down barriers to participation and foster inclusion for all. GiGi’s Phoenix is so grateful to Bret for his huge heart and loving spirit and amazing energy. In just 15 minutes Bret created memories that changed the attending children’s lives and created memories that will last forever for everyone who attended.”

Bret Michaels Rocks “Sweet Home Alabama’” on MDA Show of Strength Telethon

Rocker donates $10,000 and promises 9-year-old Ambassador a Harley ride

#MDAtelethon

CHICAGO, Aug. 30, 2014 — Viewers tuning into the 49th MDA Show of Strength Telethon this Labor Day weekend are in for “Nothin’ But a Good Time” when legendary rock star and former Poison front man Bret Michaels covers American classic “Sweet Home Alabama” on the nationally televised show airing Sunday, Aug. 31, 9/8c on ABC television stations across the country.

In addition to his rockin’ performance, Michaels took his support backstage during the show taping at the Hollywood Palladium to meet with families served by the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which included an exclusive interview with blue carpet correspondent, and MDA’s National Goodwill Ambassador, 9-year old Reagan Imhoff of New Berlin, Wis

The charismatic third-grader left a big impression on Michaels, who was moved to pledge an unplanned $10,000 donation to Reagan on the blue carpet to help support MDA’s  mission to save and improve lives of children and adults affected by muscle disease.

Michaels, and avid motorcycle enthusiast, also let Reagan charm her way into nabbing a chance-of-a-lifetime motorcycle ride on one of his Harley-Davidson bikes at a later date. Click here to see the adorable blue carpet interview with Reagan and Bret.

“I was really excited when I got asked to participate in the telethon this year because I truly believe in the lifesaving work that MDA does to help kids affected by muscle disease,” Michaels said. “I knew it was going to be a really special experience, but nothing prepared me for the moment I met Reagan. She reminded me of my youngest daughter and my heart melted as soon as she asked me to take her on a motorcycle ride. I would do anything to help these kids who fight courageously every day. I promised her a motorcycle ride and I can’t wait to make good on that promise.”

As part of her role as MDA’s National Goodwill Ambassador, Reagan travels throughout the country (along with parents, Jenny and Joe) speaking to groups about MDA’s mission to save and improve the lives of families like hers affected by muscle disease.  Reagan has spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a genetic disease affecting the part of the nervous system that controls voluntary muscle movement.

Michaels’ relationship with MDA began last spring when performed at the 27th annual Ride for Life in Bethlehem, Pa. and met with 14-year-old MDA Ambassador Bryson Foster. Bryson got the chance to interview the rock icon during a special meet-n-greet, which inspired Michaels to invite Bryson onstage for a special finale performance of classic hit “Nothin’ but a Good Time” later that evening.

Michaels also made good the #ALSIceBucketChallenge when Bryson, among many others, called out the rocker to take the challenge, which has raised millions for ALS research. Michaels took his challenge in a big way, from his record-breaking concert in Connecticut earlier this month. MDA has been fighting ALS for more than 60 years. The organization invest millions in research and services tied to ALS each year. See Bret’s Ice Bucket Challenge here: http://youtu.be/FKy_dLkZwfU.

The show, with its iconic host Jerry Lewis and with help from a legion of top celebrities and entertainers, has raised millions each year to provide life-enhancing support and services for the families MDA serves. The real stars on the broadcast have always been the MDA families who have graciously agreed to open their homes and hearts to America and tell their stories of strength. This year marks the 49th annual MDA telethon.

The 2014 MDA telethon will feature a star-studded celebrity lineup with performances from Grammy® winnersRascal Flatts and LeAnn Rimes, plus Aloe Blacc, American Authors, Bret Michaels, Fall Out Boy, Jason Derulo, Matt Nathanson, R5 and Sara Evans.

Additional celebrity presenters on the telethon include: Tom Bergeron, ABC’s Dr. Richard BesserJann Carl, Charles Esten, Terry Fator, Kevin Frazier, Josh Groban, Ludacris, Susan Lucci, Kesha, Alyssa Milano, Nancy O’Dell, Brad Paisley, Chris Powell, Jordin Sparks and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz.

In addition to funds contributed by the public, substantial support also comes from MDA’s family of national sponsors, whose work throughout the year on behalf of MDA will be recognized on the telethon. At the community level, MDA is planning telethon viewing parties with hundreds of local groups to rally support for the more than 1 million Americans it helps with lifesaving medical and support services.

Funds raised by MDA telethons also have contributed to the organization’s worldwide research program. Today, through current clinical trials, there is growing excitement that new lifesaving treatments and discoveries are on the horizon for many of the disorders MDA is dedicated to defeating, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

On a rare day off during his sold out 2014 tour, Michaels, NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, winner during its highest rated season, brought his busses, band and crew to Pilger Nebraska to physically assist in the clean-up efforts in the wake of the destruction caused by the twin EF4 tornadoes that destroyed Pilger and several surrounding towns on June 16th 2014. Michaels along with his band and crew wasted no time jumping in with the community to move and clean up debris, Bret a life-long diabetic also took time to meet and talk with many of the residents and speak to the media with the intention of spreading awareness and encourage others to pitch in.

Prompted by the affects that the tragedy had on his sisters who live in the area, one which served at Offutt Air Force Base, Bret an avid philanthropist whose LIFE ROCKS foundation is instrumental in donating to Diabetes, Cancer, Veterans and Pets and many other charitable causes, was so affected by what he’d seen during his stop in Pilger on June 23rd, that he decided instantly to put on a mega concert in the area in hopes of raising thousands of dollars to aid in the relief of the devastation caused by June 16th 2014’s twin tornados.

Music Legend Bret Michaels now lives up to his promise and invites everyone to participate in rebuilding what has been lost, by attending this spectacular event on Sunday Aug 24th at the Devent Center in Norfolk Nebraska. Michaels will be bringing a huge stage show and performing all the Poison hits as well as his solo hits and music from his number one rated TV shows, including his new single A Beautiful Soul, which has over 4 million unique you tube views and debuted at number 2 in the new music charts earlier this year. Tickets are on sale now and are available through ETix (https://www.etix.com/ticket/servlet/s/38106727). Come help make a difference.
